Science
Welcome to the Science Department
The science department incorporates the middle school and high school teachers, who follow the Next Generation Science Standards (NGGS) to prepare students for state exams such as the Grade Eight Science Exam, Living Environment Regents, and Earth Science/Physical Settings Regents.
All science courses incorporate traditional teaching methods as well and hands-on laboratory activities that work to both enhance learning experiences and meet all state mandated laboratory expectations.
Grade 8 Science
Our 8th Grade Science curriculum is thoughtfully designed to align with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), ensuring students receive a comprehensive and inquiry-based science education. Our 8th Grade Science curriculum, aligned with NGSS, aims to foster scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and an understanding of the natural world. Through hands-on experiments, interactive activities, and exploration of real-world applications, students will be well-equipped to tackle scientific challenges and make informed decisions in the ever-evolving world of science and technology.
Living Environment
Our Living Environment curriculum is designed to align with the New York State (NYS) Standards and thoroughly prepare students for success in the Living Environment Regents Exam. Students learn about scientific inquiry, cells and cellular processes, genetics and inheritance, evolution and diversity of life, ecology and human impact, reproduction and development, and human physiology and anatomy through hands-on laboratory experiences and targeted exam preparation. Our Living Environment curriculum, aligned with NYS Standards and Regents Exam requirements, aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of biological concepts and foster critical thinking skills. Through engaging lessons, hands-on laboratory experiences, and targeted exam preparation, students will be well-equipped to excel on the Living Environment Regents Exam and develop a solid foundation for further studies in biology and related fields.
Earth Science
Our Earth Science curriculum is meticulously crafted to align with the New York State (NYS) Standards and comprehensively prepare students for success in the Earth Science Regents Exam. Our Earth Science curriculum, meticulously aligned with NYS Standards and Regents Exam requirements, aims to provide students with a solid understanding of Earth's processes and systems while cultivating critical thinking skills. Through hands-on investigations, interactive lessons, and targeted exam preparation, students will be well-equipped to excel on the Earth Science Regents Exam and develop a strong foundation for further studies in Earth and environmental sciences. Topics covered in this course include Earth's Processes and History, Earth's composition, Earth's atmosphere, Climate and Weather, Astronomy, Ocean Systems, and our changing Earth.
Forensic Science
Our Forensic Science curriculum offers students an immersive journey into the captivating world of crime scene investigation, scientific analysis, and critical thinking. Through engaging lessons and hands-on experiences, students will develop the skills needed to solve mysteries and uncover the truth. Our Forensic Science curriculum aims to immerse students in the world of investigative science, critical analysis, and problem-solving. Through hands-on experiences, collaborative projects, and deep exploration of forensic techniques, students will develop both the scientific skills and the ethical mindset required to excel in this intriguing field.
